Windows 7: Haven’t Migrated yet? Virtualize the Barriers!

So Windows 7 has been around for some time.  You know you want to migrate.

There are still some stubborn applications that are not compatible with Windows 7 and MUST remain in Windows XP for the time being…

In this session, we’ll demonstrate a technique called P2V which is a free tool with Software Assurance.  We’ll also show how to deliver a managed virtual WinXP desktop with MED-V.

About Brad:

Brad is a lead technical consultant and MCT certified trainer based in Ottawa, ON.  He works with Cistel, a Microsoft GOLD partner based in Ottawa as a System Center and Virtualization architect.  3-time recipient of the Microsoft Most Valuable Professional (MVP) award for 2010 and 2011 in the Virtual Machine domain and Management Infrastructure in 2009. He is also a member of the Windows Springboard Technical Expert Panel (STEP) for Windows 7 and Server 2008 R2 having delivered STEP presentations as an evangelist in Quebec City, QC and St-Johns, Newfoundland.

Brad is a writer for Tech Republic and contributes monthly to the Network Administration and IT Security weblogs.  Brad has authored Microsoft partner training courses for System Center Configuration Manager 2007 which have been delivered around the world.  Brad also authored some webcasts on Data Protection Manager 2007 including 300 level “Protecting Applications with DPM2007” and 400 level “Advanced Features and Capabilities of DPM2007” also used in Microsoft partner training.  Brad is also a Microsoft Certified Trainer having delivered courses in Security+, AD, AD Security, SCOM, SCCM, DPM, VMM, and Microsoft Desktop Optimization Platform.

Brad actively consults to large organizations helping them architect, implement, configure and customize System Center technologies integrating them into their business processes.  He is also an active consultant, and contributor to the support community.  Brad presented in the Architecture, Management and Virtualization Tracks for TechDays 2008, 2009 and 2010 in Montreal, Ottawa, Edmonton, Toronto, Halifax, and Calgary as well as at the 2009 Microsoft Management Summit in Las Vegas.  He was the Systems Management and Security track co-lead Microsoft Canada representative for TechDays 2009 in Canada and a representative for Canada at TechEd 2009 in Los Angeles, CA.

An Introduction to WebMatrix and Razor

Microsoft WebMatrix is very light-weight alternative to building Web applications with Visual Studio. WebMatrix is designed for those who: are new to programming on the Web, want to build a small site quickly, prefer inline scripting, want to integrate with an OSS application, or perhaps all of these mixed together. In this session we’ll look at how to build applications using WebMatrix and the new “Razor” view engine.

SharePoint for ASP.NET Developers

SharePoint is one of Microsoft’s most successful products ever. As adoption grows, it becomes more and more likely that you, the ASP.NET developer, will be asked to start building customizations for SharePoint. Visual Studio 2010 includes extensive tooling that will aid you, but you’ll need to become familiar with some fundamental concepts before diving into code. This session is designed to introduce you to these concepts, laying the foundation needed before moving to File | New Project.

Local Flavours Track at Tech Days Halifax Needs You!

The purpose of this track is to highlight the local heroes and stories that make the technical community in and around Halifax awesome. Specifically, folks in the area doing great work with technology. This track was designed to provide a forum to help share their stories, while – at the same time – providing technical training to the audience.

Examples of some “stories” that have been told during TechDays in the Local Flavours Track include:

• Vancouver: How the BC Hydro Energy Managers Portal was built on SharePoint 2010
• Edmonton: How the Edmonton Oilers are Using SharePoint 2010 to Pick Next Season’s Best
• Edmonton: A More Programmable World with Open Data and OData (featuring data.edmonton.ca)

The track is open to all roles (developers, IT professionals, DBAs, etc.) and they are looking for anything and everything.
