Programming MOSS with Scott Rogers

This session will introduce MOSS and will focus on programming reusable components (web parts) to reside in MOSS.  It will introduce the SharePoint application programming interface (API) and will discuss deployment of components.

Scott Rogers works for Cyberplex, a leader in providing web advertising solutions, online customer acquisition strategies and technology development. A software architect, he has over 13 years of experience covering a board range of technologies, including ASP, Java, .Net and most recently SharePoint. He has been working heavily with Microsoft Office SharePoint 2007 (MOSS) for the last several years.

Shawn Duggan works for T4G Limited, a project-based, end-to-end technology services organization and Microsoft Gold Certified Partner. A technical leader, he has over 13 years of experience covering a broad range of industries including insurance, hospitality, networking, retail, oil and gas, and tourism. Much of his career has been designing and developing ASP.NET enterprise solutions, but he has also worked on large scale Windows applications.

This session will illustrate how to quickly build applications with DotNetNuke, as well as show how easy Tweet# makes Twitter development.

Darryl Dutton is a senior software architect with T4G. He has over 16 years experience in the design and delivery of software applications across a variety of industries including the retail, insurance, manufacturing, financial, and government sectors in Canada, US and the Middle East. Darryl specializes in application design with primary focus Microsoft technologies and has experience in large enterprise integration and development projects. Currently living in Halifax, he enjoys traveling the world and masters swimming.

This presentation will provide a high level introduction to cloud computing and Microsoft’s Azure Platform.

Dev East Halifax July 14 Meeting Wrap Up

I think my first meeting went quite well.  The speakers were great (thanks Shawn and Russell), we didn’t run out of pizza, and lots of  folks got involved in the discussions.   Not only that, lots of great prizes were given out.

Russell Smith, Usability Specialist & Interaction Designer

Russell SmithAs a Usability Specialist, Russell champions the user experience throughout the development process by consistently communicating and architecting research and design solutions that align with user, business and technical goals.

He has worked with T4G Limited for over eight years focused primarily on content delivery, design and front end development in the retail, telecommunications and utilities sectors. Over the past 4 years, Russell has gained skills and experience specifically in the evaluation and architecting of information and design, most recently with New Brunswick Tourism, New Brunswick Power, Bell Aliant and Atlantic Lottery Corporation.

A users experience can make or break the success, uptake and interest in your online application or website. This session will help to understand what UX is and how it can help create user focused applications.

ASP.NET MVC and jQuery

Shawn Peterson

Shawn is a Developer/Analyst with T4G Limited and works in Saint John, NB.  He has four years of experience in the development of web based systems, including customer-facing web self serve.

His technical experience has been centered on the Microsoft.NET framework and related technologies (ASP.NET, C#, VB.NET, SQL Server, Windows, and XML).  Most recently, he worked with ASP.NET MVC while creating a sample application, TouristForADay.com, for T4G’s GeekFest 2009.

The presentation for Dev East will include an overview of ASP.NET MVC (model view controller) and jQuery along with a code walkthrough from the TouristForADay.com application.

Dev East Halifax Meeting July 14, 2009

After a brief hiatus and a leadership change we’re back!  Tonight’s presentations are User Interface Design and Usability, and ASP.NET MVC with jQuery.  Speaker bios and session abstracts will be posted within the next week.

There are lots of prizes and giveaways at this event – including Visual Studio 2008 Professional, XBox 360 Halo Wars, Resharper, T-shirts, and more.

Many thanks to the Faculty of Computer Science at Dalhousie University for hosting the event.  Their generosity is greatly appreciated and we look forward to continuing to work with them in the future.
